We had our annual visit program to Miyako City in Iwate Prefecture (2018)

From August 2nd to the 5th, fourteen of our students visited Miyako City in Iwate Prefecture. This program began after the Great East Japan Earthquake. In attendance were 14 students from the Student Council Executive Committee, the Cultural Festival Executive Committee, and also some students from others.


8月2日
· Firstly, we went to Miyako Bay Ferry Terminal and attended a commemoration service for the Miyako Muroran Passage. We also viewed the completion of the "mural painting project" that we have joined in at Aoyama Gakuin.


        

· Students participated in a “Disaster Prevention tour”, given by local volunteers for earthquake disasters and visited Taro Tourist Hotel and the evacuation route. We also heard the story about the junior high school students who gathered and helped seniors and children on that terrible day.


8月3日
· Students talked with residents who are living in the disaster homes and discussed with students from Miyako Kita High School about this year’s theme of ‘reconstruction’. 


 


8月4日
· We toured the disaster information room named "Voyager" at Taro Daiichi Junior High School and we heard directly from a clerk who have been working at the time of the disaster about this intense situation during the earthquake. 




 - The "GREENPIA Festival" was held and the all students from Aoyama Gakuin helped.
 A lot of local children visited and enjoyed the event.


8月5日
· We visited the reconstructed commemorative road and tunnel and had a tour of the "Sea breeze herb garden". After visiting both sites, we began our return trip to Tokyo.
