English Camp2019
report

Summer
English Camp

August
25 – 27, 2019

Twenty-three
students, three international students from Germany and South Korea, and two
high school graduates attended our English camp in Karuizawa.

The aim of the camp was to learn about and consider various global issues while using only English. There were various activities such as quizzes, self-study, discussions, readings, videos, problem-solving, and group presentations.

Some of the topics we addressed were environmental issues such as the use of plastic, how to create a sustainable society, and the lives of fair-trade coffee farmers in East Timor.

In
the downtime between activities, the students and the international students
got to know each other through various fun activities such as a barbecue, a campfire,
and a water fight! It was an enjoyable but meaningful experience for everyone,
and we were really impressed with the students active participation, their
desire to use only English, and their ability to consider, discuss, and present
about complicated global issues.
