A Report on the Philippines Visit Program
【Philippines Visit Program】
report

The Philippines visit program was held from March 21st to 27th, 2019.

This year we visited three rural areas in the Philippines. These areas, which need our support, were Iloilo City, Guimaras Island, and Dasmariñas City in southern Manila.

After meetings at a local support center, regional visits, school visits, and exchange meetings with high school students, we took the time to think about the differences of life in Japan and the Philippines, the relationship between Philippine’s economic development and these poor areas, and how we can support these impoverished areas.

The students who participated in this year’s program interviewed the support staff, local children and their guardians, and thought about what can be done to help with the problems that they face. They also tried to think about the hidden risks and social issues about supporting children from these impoverished areas.

They considered such questions as:

  • What does it mean to protect an area?

  • How can we protect these children?

  • What are the necessities these children must have to survive and flourish?

We also plan to set up a SGH project for Global Week 1, which is in June. At this time, the members who participated in the program will further discuss the themes of ‘power’ and ‘value’. They will also consider what they can do to protect the children from these regions.

We will post updates in the future, so please check it out on this site!
