ACEF x Volunteer Department Workshop Session
【Volunteer Club】
report

A workshop session was held on May 14, 2019 with the BDP staff from Bangladesh.

The volunteer club supports Bangladesh through the non-profit organization named Asian Christian Education Fund (ACEF). This charity raises money through sales at our cultural festivals and other events.

ACEF cooperates with BDP (Basic Development Partners), a local NGO working in Bangladesh, to support local elementary schools and vocational training schools.

For this workshop, we had the staff of ACEF, and Mr. Ambros from the BDP staff, talked about the current situation in Bangladesh and the state of education support that BDP is doing locally.

After the workshop, a discussion was held with the students and Mr. Ambros. It was a lively discussion, with constant questions from the students.

◆ Student voices (partial excerpts)

・The school environment in which I can study every day is not a normal thing, and many children in Bangladesh still do not have it. Although I sometimes think that I do not want to study, I now feel that I should be thankful for the great school environment I have in Japan.

・ It was nice to learn more about Bangladesh's culture. Having a broader perspective is important so I tried to ask a lot of questions about the positive and negative aspects of life in Bangladesh. I also wanted to learn new things about Bangladesh's culture and its people's image and awareness about Japan.
