For the week of October 3rd to the 8th, we held our second Global Week.
Global WeekⅡhad the theme of ‘Get Connected’.
We invited a variety of guests and held daily events to promote diversity and global thinking.
A global society is full of diversity so students need to see past skin color and language, and understand and accept the differences between such narrow beliefs.
Global WeekⅡwas a great opportunity to "lead" student discussions and to experience broader world views.
In daily worship time, we had speakers from the NGOs such as Child Fund Japan, which supports orphan children in the Philippines, and Dr. Eisuke Kanda who is the executive director of FVI (Friends with the Voiceless International) that is a borderless movement of trusting God to bring His Kingdom on earth while focusing on practical acts of love at a daily and personal level. Aiming to recover dignity as God intended, special attention is given to the marginalized of society.
During lunch breaks and after school, there were workshops including one by "Friends with the Voiceless International’ which required students to learn how to listen and communicate effectively.
At another session we had 10 chat leaders lead an English chat room that focused on global issues and gestures.
We also had briefings about our Philippines and East Timor programs.
There was an East Timor coffee tasting activity provided by our student volunteer group called Blue Peco and another activity, provided by the Tokyo Baptist Church, which was an international snack tasting.
Students actively participated in each of these events and it became a whole week to think about our world.
