Miyako Visit Project
【Global WeekⅡ】
report

In Global Week II, students who visited Miyako City, in Iwate Prefecture, during summer vacation for our Miyako visit program conducted a worship, held a report meeting, and had a roundtable discussion party.

-Worship-
Students talked about how they felt when they actually visited Miyako City and what they thought could be done to support them in the future. One concrete way suggested of providing future support was the need to get better connected with the people in the affected areas through new correspondence such as with the Philippine Letter Project conducted in Global Week I.

- Miyako visit program report meeting -
During lunch break, we held a meeting introducing exhibits and videos created by the students who participated in the Miyako visit program. In addition, seaweed soup - a Miyako City specialty was served and more than 200 students gathered to deepen their understanding of the Miyako disaster.

- Roundtable Meeting -
After school, we held a roundtable discussion about future disaster area support activities with students from the Aoyama Gakuin University student organization ‘MF 3.11 Tohoku Relief Association’. We discussed the activities that are presently taking place by both parties and their future plans too.
The students said, "Even if the affected areas are still weathering the earthquake disaster there are many problems that still exist now. We would like to think about the lessons learned from 3.11 and use it in the future. "

- Mural Painting Project -
A project sponsored by Aoyama Gakuin Women's Junior College for the purpose of commemorating the opening of the Miyako-shi’s Muroran ferry created a mural of the port area. Many students participated from the high school and all the other institutes on Aoyama campus too. We prepared a mural accompanied with the attendees' words of greetings from Japan and all around world. The students also added the Hebrew greeting "SHALOM", which means "peace". From this, we were able to create a work related to the theme of the project
