2016年8月24日(水)～8月26日(金) 軽井沢追分寮にてイングリッシュ・キャンプ(多文化共生キャンプ)が実施され、23名の生徒が参加しました。
このキャンプは英語を使って生活する中で様々なアクティビティを行い、世界に目を向け、理解を深めるものです。
今回は青学大に来ているミャンマー、マレーシア、インドネシアからの留学生3名をチャットリーダーとして迎え、各国の文化の紹介やアクティビティ、ディスカッションを通して異文化交流を行いました。
キャンプの中では「よい国とはどのような国か」ということを、安全保障、文化、環境保護、などの側面から様々な国のランキングを比較し、それを元に日本がどういう国になるべきか、ということに関してディスカッションを行いました。
また、フェアトレードに関しての概念作りを実際の商品を目で見て判断することから始め、なぜ生産、流通、消費に不均衡が生じるのか、私たちはどのような消費者であるべきか、などが議論されました。
このセッションの中で、教員が今年度生徒とともに「東ティモールスタディツアー」として行った東ティモールにおけるコーヒー栽培の実情を報告し、さらに理解を深めました。キャンプの夜に行う礼拝では、生徒が自分の留学経験から感じたこと、学んだことを英語で話し、生徒たちも真剣に話を聞いていました。
英語のみを使って過ごした3日間、様々なアクティビティを通して生徒たちは様々な事を学び、新たな発見を得ることが出来たキャンプとなったようです。
参加した生徒の感想(一部抜粋)
◆My image of the good country is a country having a lot of money or having happy citizens. However I learned that there are many things we have to care about. For example, the environment, cooperation with other countries, the development of technology, and the mortality rate. I think Japan is a good country based on those criteria and I realized that is why we live so happily.
◆Japan is surrounded by ocean so for a long time there has been only a single ethnic group, and this may generate a lot of problems if we accept a lot of refugees. However, we have to help each other no matter what borders or races we have.
Fair trade is not popular in Japan. Most people are satisfied if their own environment is good enough. However, there are some people who are making coffee beans or cacao beans that never get to drink or eat their own productions because they earn so little money and their beans are sold at too high a price for them to buy. Isn't this a contemporary Imperialism? We all need to know this current situation.
In Japan, politicians tend to very stubborn so it's difficult to elect foreign politicians. It's also important to make Japan a more global country.
◆To know the truth of the world and about other people’s situations is our duty. We cannot do anything for other people without knowing their real mindset or situations. So firstly I must make an effort to realize that there is a lot we don’t know and misunderstand about other cultures. Furthermore, we have to think about what we can do. Finally, taking action is necessary. Gathering correct knowledge is important, however, it's a pity not to act on these good perceptions. Acting is truly crucial. Now is the time to study, and then in the near future we can act. I will definitely do this in the future.
